Massive Increase In International Travel Bookings Seen
According to the World Travel and Tourism Council (WTTC) and its information technology partner ForwardKeys, as international travel accelerates, there is a significant increase in international flight bookings worldwide.
As the world continues to reopen after the pandemic, a series of leaps has been announced at the 21st WTTC Global Summit in Manila.
Strong recovery news highlights the prospect of a summer vacation with sunny and sea destinations such as the Caribbean and Latin America in incoming international orders.
According to ForwardKeys, a leading travel and analytics company, the two best destinations for the summer are Costa Rica, Aruba, the Dominican Republic and Jamaica, which are heavily dependent on international travel. These destinations are the leaders in terms of reservations that have already passed pre-pandemic levels.
The gradual recovery of the industry last year was significantly slowed by a sharp increase in the number of Omicron infections. However, in 2022, the future looks brighter with positive global reservation data.
Julia Simpson, President and CEO of WTTC, said: “ForwardKeys order data for WTTC 2022 is a strong signal of a strong recovery in the global travel and tourism sector.
"Travel to the Asia-Pacific region is showing signs of impressive improvement as the destinations gradually open their borders to visitors, in line with consumer demand."
Olivier Ponty, Vice President of ForwardKeys Insights, said: “The recent reopening of Asia is encouraging, leading to a return to travel within Asia and the region, which will clearly play a role in the global economy. recovery. "
According to the report, the first and second quarters of this year reflect a three-digit increase in orders for incoming flights around the world, compared to last year, including the United States, Europe and Asia.
Travelers hope to spend more on travel in 2022 as restrictions on premium cabins increase and restrictions are eased. Other trends include an increase in last-minute orders.
Another sign of the resurgence of travel is the arrival in Europe: in the first quarter of 2022, international arrivals increased by 350% compared to last year.
The Asia-Pacific region also saw an increase in arrivals in the first quarter of this year compared to 2021, with orders in the region up 275%.
The second quarter saw a strong recovery accelerated with a significant increase in international orders, up 264% from the previous year.
This acceleration is particularly noticeable in Asia, where travel restrictions have been lifted. The Philippines, which hosts the WTTC World Summit, is the fastest growing country in Southeast Asia, up 29 percent from the first quarter in the second quarter of this year.
The outlook for summer travel is driven by the resurgence of travel to the Caribbean and Latin America, which is seven of the top 10 travel destinations.
India and Pakistan are also very popular, mainly because they travel with family and friends.
Meanwhile, destinations in Europe such as Iceland, Greece, Portugal, Spain and France are showing strong recovery, with travel orders lagging behind the pandemic.
Africa and the Middle East are also in the top 20, while Tanzania, Qatar and Egypt are approaching pre-pandemic travel levels.
The ongoing recovery in the Asia-Pacific travel and tourism sector will accelerate as routes gradually reopen in 2022. - TradeArabia News Service
