State officials are spending more time on Facebook YouTube advertising to promote Iowa as a national travel destination to update the state's Travel Iowa website.
Gov. Kim Reynolds said that means adding more videos at key tourist attractions like the Los Angeles, Iowa exhibit.
"And it was a little risky the first time, but we were there, we promoted the beauty of Iowa in all four seasons. We just have to master it. "From Dubuque Fall Foil to Dubuque Fall Foil to Seven Oak Skiing in Bana, we did our best," Reynolds said this afternoon. We show it to everyone who invests more in local marketing.”
This includes a new $1 million publicly funded initiative with the Iowa Restaurant Association Iowa Hotels Hotel Association to promote Iowa as a destination for business travel, festivals and sporting events. Reynolds spoke at the opening of the Iowa Tourism Conference, the first time the conference has been held in person in two years.
"You know, we have a great story to tell and there's never been a better time for it," Reynolds said.
The "Iowa Soul" video premieres tonight on De Moy. "I don't want to say too much to spoil the surprise, but you'll find it shows things from a whole new perspective," Reynolds told those gathered in the hotel's conference room.
Reynolds examines how the state is using federal aid to fight the epidemic for unprecedented tourism investment. Last month, the governor announced $100 million in federal funding for commercial airports in Iowa, and this month he announced an additional $100 million in epidemiological assistance will be available in grants to modernize existing resorts and clean them up.
More than 41.3 million adults will visit Iowa in 2021, according to the governor.
"In the first two months of 2022, Iowa experienced the second highest recovery after road travel in the country," Reynolds said at the end of his speech. "Freeway distances in Iowa are up 15% compared to 2019."
And Reynolds says these are stats that show doing more to increase winter traffic in the state makes more sense.
