Summer 2022 is approaching and many are already planning holidays at home and abroad.

In March, Expedia found that Americans were already looking for the best destinations for summer vacation.

Christy Hudson, Expedia's senior public relations manager, said earlier this month that "many travel restrictions have been eased in the past month, prompting travelers to review their to-do lists and start planning. ".

"Prices are already reflecting the demand for paint..." he added.

August is one of the cheapest months to travel, with ticket prices on average 10% lower than July and 5% lower than June. During the summer months, Expedia has found that the cheapest day for mid-range flights is Tuesday and the most expensive day is Friday.

The most expensive days to fly to the United States in the summer are July 1, just before the July 4 holiday.

“Choosing a weekend or not traveling on a holiday can save money,” Expedia notes in its findings.

With travel suspended for two years due to the COVID-19 outbreak, airfares are already high and a green flight is even more expensive, so it's important to save where possible.

Destination United States

During the summer months, Expedia identifies travel destinations in the United States where round-trip fares per person are typically below or near $350.

There are three destinations in Texas where round-trip fares are around $350 including San Antonio, Houston and Austin. Houston and Austin are two of the most popular tourist destinations in recent months.

Florida has two relatively inexpensive tourist destinations: Fort Lauderdale and Tampa, and Myrtle Beach and Charleston in South Carolina.

There are three other destinations in the United States that offer relatively cheap flights: Providence, Rhode Island, Nashville and New Orleans. Los Angeles and Bar Harbor, Maine have been listed as the most popular beach destinations in the United States, but they don't come cheap.

In addition to Houston and Austin, three other US cities, including Chicago, Washington and New York, have been cited as popular and potential popular summer vacation destinations.

“National and state parks and other outdoor destinations are expected to remain popular as top road travel destinations this summer, including Mount Rushmore, Banff and Yellowstone National Parks,” added Expedia.

Overseas destination

The number of COVID cases hasn't stopped American travelers from exploring potential summer travel destinations abroad.

Travelers often seek out popular but expensive beach destinations for their summer holidays abroad, including Bali, Indonesia, the Maldives and Santorini in Greece.

Overseas trips included Singapore, Stockholm, Berlin, Dubai and Kelowna, Canada, which were also popular with customers.

Travelers who want to travel overseas and up north, but not too far for the summer, can find cheap flights to Toronto and Ontario.

As always, check COVID-19 domestic travel and movement restrictions for overseas destinations as conditions may change and rules and requirements may change.
