Travel to Australia is finally back. Internal borders have been opened again, some of us even dare to cross international waters. But for those looking for a vacation that doesn't require a year of rest - a day on the road, there are many amazing local destinations that will make long weekends great.

Here, with support from Tourism Australia, we've compiled a list of recreational areas that are within driving distance of cities in all Australian states and territories.

Take a 90 minute drive into the mountains and descend on a beautiful gem known as Bilby. "Mountain Appleland is a haven for cozy pensions, apple orchards, outdoor gardens and organic produce."

Artesian Baths, Lightning Mountain Range

The trip is longer (about 8 hours from Sydney), but it can definitely be done four days on a weekend if you are a car enthusiast.

Lightning Ridge is famous for its opals, but if you go to an exotic city, it is worth taking a look at the artesian baths. The water is said to be "about two million years old" and has healing properties that relieve muscle pain. Swim with the locals and enjoy the 41.5-degree heat all year round.”

Canberra National Arboretum is located 6 km from central Canberra. The Australian Tourist Board recommends: "Start with breakfast at Discovery Garden, then walk around the park." Make sure to order your food in advance, or wear a blanket or party.

Set around the ruins of a World War II boarding camp in Italy, Blue Range Camp is a popular spot for fans of family history, according to Tourism Australia. Set up camp here և Walk along the alpine trails of North Namag National Park.

Canberra wine region

Within a 35-minute drive from Canberra, you will find over 30 wineries ready to serve you a delicious drink.

According to Tourism Australia, "the area produces rare species such as Sangiovese, Riesling, Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, Merlot, Shiraz and Tempranillo և Grüner Veltliner".

A short drive from Melbourne will take you to the enchanting mountains of Macedonia. Tourism Australia offers: 'Stand by a wine collection for panoramic views of the region's famous Chardonnay. Spend 15 minutes shopping in Kyneton.

Mira Mira Fantasy Resort is located 90 minutes from Melbourne. Its world-class atmosphere will make for a special day off. From fairytale huts to "hobbit-style underworld" rooms, this is as valuable as Instagram.

Drive from North Queensland to places like the Cairns Falls to the Atherton Plateau. Observatories, historic villages, waterfalls, and dairy will fill the weekend.

The stunning Mosman Gorge is also located in TNQ, an hour's drive from Cairns. If you decide to visit this jungle area, it is worth going to the Ngadiku Dreamtime Walk, where you will understand the potential of the area.

Mural City, Sheffield

Did you know that Tasi had a city of murals? You do it now. Located just 30 minutes from Deporte, it "features a collection of 100 murals painted by local artists on the walls of local history and buildings depicting their heroes."

Coles Bay:

Coles Bay is the idol resort you dream of traveling to in Tasmania. This will be especially attractive to oyster fishermen, who can clean the skin and eat some delicious local food in the water.

The bay is just a short drive from Fresenite National Park, home to many wildlife. Coles Bay is located a few hours from Hobart.

Located about 3.5 hours from Perth, this quaint city is the perfect place for a long weekend getaway. Stop by the Grotta del Lago, "Great Crystal Room Deep in the Earth (Reservation Required)" and be prepared to be entertained.

Urava Reserve

According to Tourism Australia, "Perkins Well Historic Site #2 is a great sight to behold from the Milky Way. Spend a weekend watching the stars stand at Mul a, and explore the many star-studded villages in the area."

Spend the weekend at Cooinda Camping Ground, near Yellow Water Billabong, where you can go for alligators and birds.

Lichfield National Park

In less than an hour and a half from Darwin, you'll find Lichfield National Park, where you can explore 4x4 trails, experiencing "challenging terrain, beautiful rivers, and wildlife." However, be sure to check which part of the park is open when you want to visit.
