Dubai Tourism recently partnered with Afrozons Radio and presenter Sheila O. to create the Afrozons Dubai Soundoff, a journey dedicated to the black diaspora.

Afrozons Dubai Soundoff is a premier tourism event co-organized by the Dubai Tourism Board with Afrozons Radio and presenter Sheila O. to promote black diaspora unity in Dubai. But this unique journey is not limited to people living in the United Arab Emirates. Afrozon's Dubai Soundoff aims to bring black nations and black people together from around the world.

When you think of Dubai, you probably think of skyscrapers, modern architecture and the most luxurious views of the city and nightlife. But if there's one thing you might not grapple with in the glittering emirate, it's a festival dedicated solely to uniting the black diaspora. This is where the Afrozone comes into play.

The festival features a variety of activities including welcome receptions, Afrobeat concerts, camel rides in the dunes, safari tours, dinners, parties and celebrity performances from 14 countries including the US, Ghana, Kenya and the UK. and much more. The festival's mission is to fully develop Dubai as a premier destination for the black diaspora.

Sheila O., whose full name is Sheila Okonji-Ashinze, is a popular music and entertainment personality and mogul who made history in 2017 as the first international media personality to air the Afrobeat radio show Afrozons. radio station. For the past five years, Afrozon's Radio has expanded America's music ear with the delightful sound of Afrobeat on Power 92.3 in Chicago and also airs on SiriusXM channel HURVoices 141. This 2-hour show showcases the diversity of black diaspora music including hip-hop, urban and R&B, but as the name suggests, Afrozon's main goal is to integrate Afrobeat in America, which they have been successfully achieving since 2017.

Afrozon's Dubai Soundoff was initiated by Sheila O. with support from the Dubai Department of Economy and Tourism. Together they managed to bring more than 500 people to Dubai in March 2022 to experience black culture in the new city. Celebrities and radio personalities such as Big Tigger, Loni Love and Dj Bay Bay attended the event, while figures from the UK and Africa including Angola, Tanzania, Zambia and Nigeria also joined in the fun.

RCA Records' Sam Selolwein noted that Afrozon has raised awareness of Afrobeat in the United States, telling Black Enterprise that "Afrozon has been at the forefront of bringing Afrobeat to this part of the world for some time.

"Sheila's dedication to artists and genres helped draw those artists in and make them the names we know today," he added.

After seeing her vision come true, Sheila O. called the Dubai Tourism Board to bring black tourists to amazing Dubai. “I am a girl who was born in Lagos, Nigeria. I grew up in London. Yes, I live in Chicago, but Dubai is a dream come true," he said.

Building on the success of the event, Dubai plans to welcome black travelers to the Golden City each year via the Afrozons Dubai Soundoff, with the company's travel draw expected to begin in Q4.
