May 29, 2022 - Even though it seems naive not to take advantage of the summer to fully enjoy the Adriatic Sea, this time of year is the perfect time to visit other places along the coast. If you are away from the sea and need to swim, here are some cool places in Croatia to freshen up!

Summer in Croatia is synonymous with turquoise waters, paradise islands and sailboats. For many, if your vacation isn’t one of those items, you’re not enjoying the country as much as you should. I disagree. Although it is essential to visit the Adriatic Sea, the summer offers many opportunities throughout the geography of Croatia. The parks and fields are full of greenery and shade, perfectly hidden from the sun. The number of events and celebrations is also increasing significantly in central and eastern Croatia. Why don't you lose all this?

If you can, add Central and Eastern Croatia to your itinerary is a great idea. Zagreb and Osijek airports also offer routes and flights, and by getting to know the city and its surroundings, you can discover what Croatia is so famous for: its coastline and islands. But don’t worry, we know that high temperatures in these parts of the country are no stranger to you and you’ll probably want to take a bath before you wait to reach the coast. If you also like fresh water, here are some places in Croatia to freshen up.

Jarun Lake, Zagreb

At this time of year, when temperatures reach unbearable levels, Lake Jarun becomes an oasis of shade and fresh water for the residents of the Croatian capital. Lake Yarun is a 2 km long man-made body of water, surrounded by roads, embankments, forests and parks. It was built and opened in 1987 for the Universiade - World University Games. The lake is ideal not only for swimmers, but also for rowers, kayakers or boaters.

Drava River, Osijek

Drava, the main river in Osijek, not only provides a beautiful attraction for the city, but also offers its residents a perfect alternative when summer and the Adriatic Sea reach so far. For some it may seem like a habit, but the banks of the Drava River are crowded with hundreds of people looking for a good swim even on weekdays. In addition to tanning, family and friends gather to play games and have a picnic on the beach.

Foginovo baths, Karlovac

Foginovo kupalište is a river bath in the village of Karlovac, where its inhabitants cool off in the waters of the Koran River. From the fountain in Plitvic, the Koran reaches as far as Karlovac, and for centuries it has provided locals and guests with an oasis of tranquility, nature and fresh water. In addition to being relatively clean, swimmers can safely do so thanks to lifeguards who are always nearby. It is definitely a great place for everyone, as adults can sunbathe on the beach, and the little ones love inflatable castles and trampolines.

Cetin River

The Cetina River is one of the largest and most important rivers in southern Croatia, originating in the eastern Cetina River in Šibenik-Knin County, which crosses almost all of Dalmatia and reaches the Adriatic Sea in Omis. Some people think that the Cetina spring is a great place to swim in the summer, but there are plenty of places to cool off along the river. If you are in Omis, encourage activities such as kayaking, canoeing or rafting, as many organizers plan your time to take a good swim in the fresh water after a good workout.

Modro Jezero, Imocki

In Imocka, just an hour from Split, you will find not only the historic and quite picturesque city, but also some of the country’s most famous lakes. One of them, Lake Modro in particular, is an ideal place to swim, where high temperatures can easily be reached during these months of the year. Of all the above alternatives, Modro Jezero should be one of the most spectacular in terms of location and landscape.
