Yolo Journal Fall 2019 Yolanda Edwards Volume 2 English

Yolanda Edwards likes to shop in the old fashioned way: not with a smartphone, but with a passport. As the editor of a travel and lifestyle magazine and a former creative director of Condé Nast Traveler magazine, Edwards has traveled the world for decades in search of beautiful destinations full of beautiful scenery and unique treasures. Think of handmade espadrilles, delicate silk scarves, fine linen and polished leather products that instantly transport you to another time and place. “Traveling has been my obsession all my life,” says Edwards. "The best advice I've ever received is from people who have traveled a lot and traveled a lot, seeing a picture of a place and being in love."

Edwards ’passion prompted him to launch the Yolo Journal, a travel magazine dedicated to personal travel experiences. The publication, which is published in print three times a year, features beautiful photographs, as well as stories and "recommendations from people of good taste who were willing to share their findings from around the world," he says. There's also Yolo Intel, the Substack newsletter, which details his travels and members' travels around the world, as he puts it, "I can't go anywhere in the world to write about it. No." ! "

Edwards, who visits places near and far, has worked on the work and fashion of his uniforms, bending over to the classic classics that stack well and can be mixed and matched to create endless looks. Of course, it’s always best to shop on cobbled streets and bustling markets, but Edwards has also picked up some online favorites that are available from anywhere. Here’s what’s at the top of his essential list.

Travel for a great photo: Sonic Editions

Edwards recently teamed up with Sonic Editions to create a collection of travel-inspired images. The images are from past issues of his Yolo Journal, as well as "falling in love with himself while he was editing, inspiring and enjoying his favorite places and things around the world," he said.

Her favorite fashion uniform: vintage Levi's.

“I like to wear vintage 501 jeans that are a bit cropped,” Edward explains. Also, depending on the weather, it’s a t-shirt or buttoned shirt; Alex Eagle's favorites. Try to have a coffee in the morning. "An aperitif at noon or in the afternoon."

The shoes she loves: flat sneakers that combine comfort and style

“My shoes are always flat,” says Edward, who travels regularly. "John Lobb are Venetian moccasins or shoes." He has just started collaborating with the Italian shoemaker Scarosso, and has added his own colors to classic Friulane sneakers. The flats are lightweight, easy to pack and with many items in her wardrobe, from dresses to jeans, she says.

Love bag: Mark Cross shoulder bag.

“I’ve always carried a shoulder bag and I’ve been in the hands of Mark Cross for a year,” says Edwards. "It goes with everything and doesn't look out of place with jeans and Rod Lavers, but it can also work in a black tie environment."

Edwards prefers classic accessories with bright accents. “I always wear a watch, my husband loves watches, so I have a lot to choose from and some gold bracelets on my other wrist,” she says. "I also love the heavy Drakes patterns that adorn my classic, gray and black uniform!"

Always in your pocket: Smythson magazines

“For meetings, I have a Smythson laptop,” says Edwards, a recent Yolo Intel newsletter that has grown rapidly in popularity. “I write about places I’ve just returned from, about a recipe I found along the way, about the shoes I like, and I make these long black books about the city. Although the Yolo Journal focuses heavily on photography, it says the newsletter is “a place where we can delve deeper into the destination”.

Your relaxation ritual: gouache massage at home

To relax and rest at the end of the day, Edwards says, "I like to wash my face, apply oil, and then use the gua sha tool to clean my face and neck. Massage. There's nothing better than gin. Martini.
