Asian destinations are on the radars of Hong Kong residents, according to data from Expedia.

Bangkok became the most searched destination with a 1040% increase compared to the previous week. The capital of Thailand is followed by the Japanese city Osaka (more than 1000%) and the capital of South Korea Seoul (900%).

Thailand's world-famous beach resorts of Phuket and the city-state of Singapore were also hit hard after the lockdown was eased.

The popularity of Bangkok among Hong Kong residents is not surprising.

What Expedia says about search results

In a statement on August 10, Lavinia Rajaram, PR manager for Asia at Expedia, said: "Expedia's flight search data shows that Hongkongers' interest in continuing to travel abroad has grown steadily over the past six months. last."

Rajaram added that data from the April-June quarter showed a 60% increase in international flight searches on Expedia.com.hk compared to the previous quarter.

Interestingly, there has also been an almost similar increase in the number of people traveling to Hong Kong.

According to Bloomberg, Trip.com, China's largest online travel agency, announced on August 9 that there was a 249% increase in flight bookings to SAR after the announcement of the lockdown restrictions. Outbound flights at the platform experienced a 176% increase.

On 8 August, Hong Kong Chief Executive John Lee announced that the hotel's quarantine period had been reduced to three days, with four days of "sanitary surveillance" starting on 12 August.
